PII video redaction
PII video redaction is the compliance officer’s noun: not “a blur app,” but a list of personal identifiers that must not survive a disclosure file. What counts as PII in footage
Anything that identifies a living person in context: a face, a plate tied to a household, a name tape, a student ID on a lanyard, a medical screen in an ER bay, a case file on a desk, a voice saying a date of birth. Policy teams write the list; operators execute it. Video Blackout does not invent your exemption schedule — it gives durable covers for each class once humans decide.
Names and account numbers in PDFs, Word, or Excel are not in the video file. PII Blackout covers those on Windows or Mac. This page is about footage.

PII redaction software, for pictures of people
PII redaction software in a security questionnaire sometimes means card numbers, medical-claim files, or a database column. Those are not frames. This page is PII that a camera recorded: a face, a plate, a badge, a monitor, a spoken name. Video Blackout does not scan card data, and it does not compare PII with PCI. If the sensitive object is on screen or on the soundtrack, mark it here and export. If it is a spreadsheet, use a different tool.
Why badges and screens are operator-drawn
Detectors for “every ID badge in the wild” are brittle and easy to oversell. A handwritten visitor sticker, a mirrored monitor, or a folder edge will not match a training set you can trust for disclosure. Video Blackout therefore treats non-face, non-plate identifiers as first-class manual regions: draw, time-limit, track if needed, burn in. That is slower than a magic “find all PII” demo and more honest in a DPIA or FOIA log.
Do not confuse detection with a legal determination
A detector does not know your exemption. Operators apply policy. Export is irreversible, which is what you want for a release copy; keep the original in the system of record. Processing location: offline video redaction.
Offline PII redaction
Marking identifiers on a local PC avoids creating a second, unredacted copy in a vendor cloud. Controllers who already struggle to name processors for CCTV should not add another one just to blur a badge. Account and billing stay on the website; the footage does not.

- Does PII video redaction auto-find every identifier?
- No. Faces and license plates have on-device auto-detect plus manual boxes. Other PII (badges, screens, paperwork) is operator-marked. Audio is manual time ranges only — no speech recognition.
- Is PII the same as GDPR or FOIA?
- PII is what you mask. GDPR and FOIA are why you mask it. Use those use-case pages for the legal workflow.
- Can I rely on face detection alone for a disclosure file?
- Usually not. A clear badge, monitor, or spoken name can re-identify someone whose face is already covered.
- Are badge and screen covers permanent in the export?
- Yes. Manual regions use the same burn-in path as faces and plates — mosaic, blur, or solid written into the release file.
- Does the website scan my video for PII?
- No. Marking and export happen in the Windows desktop app. This site does not accept uploads.
