AI video redaction

AI video redaction is how operators stop doing frame-by-frame labor. Video Blackout runs local detectors on the PC that opened the file. Suggested boxes for faces and license plates can be kept, discarded, resized, or tracked. You can also ignore the detector and draw boxes from scratch. Export still rewrites pixels — the model does not host your video.

Automated video redaction — the honest split

Automated video redaction means the first pass is machine-assisted, not that a black box ships a file without a human. That split matters for discovery and for FOIA: a person still owns the release. Tracking follows a region once you confirm it, which is the difference between a toy blur filter and software you can defend in a records log.

Search phrases like “auto censor video” or “automatic face blur” map to the same first pass here: propose regions, then require confirmation before a burned-in export.

Video Blackout capabilities

Identifier Auto-detect Manual
Faces Yes — on-device detector Yes — draw or adjust boxes; keep or redact per person
License plates Yes — on-device detector Yes — draw or track boxes
Other on-screen PII No Yes — static or tracked regions (badges, screens, paperwork)
Audio No — no speech recognition Yes — operator marks time ranges; mute or beep on export

AI video blurring tool — on the device

Search traffic for “AI video blurring tool” often wants a website. Those tools are the opposite of offline video redaction. Video Blackout is the local equivalent: blur, mosaic, or solid fill, chosen per policy, written into the export on the same machine that holds the evidence copy.

Expectation from “AI blur” ads What Video Blackout does
Upload a clip to a website Open a local file in Windows software
One-click unattended export Detect → human review → export
Cloud GPU “magic” On-device detectors + tracking
Auto-mute every name Not offered — manual audio ranges only

What the models are for

  • Face redaction — auto-detect plus manual boxes
  • License plates — auto-detect plus manual boxes
  • Manual tracks when the camera whirls or a target is tiny
  • Static regions for a doorway, a whiteboard, or a screen
  • Audio is not a model target — mark ranges by hand

Other PII is still operator-guided; see PII video redaction.

Operator loop (assisted, not abandoned)

  1. Open the local clip.
  2. Run face and/or plate detection on the spans that matter.
  3. Deselect people or plates that must stay clear; add manual boxes for misses.
  4. Track moving targets so the cover stays attached.
  5. Mark audio ranges if speech must go.
  6. Export a burned-in file. Keep the original.

AI redaction software means video here

Automated redaction software and AI redaction software are bought by two different teams. One team wants a model to find names in documents, databases, or email. The other wants faces and plates proposed in a video so a person can confirm them. Video Blackout is only the second product. It does not redact PDFs, spreadsheets, or data stores, and it does not auto-mute speech. The assisted pass is faces and license plates on the PC that opened the file, followed by a human export.

Why local models beat “send it to the AI”

Sending unredacted evidence to a model API recreates the residency problem offline buyers already rejected. Local detectors keep the sensitive file under the same admin boundary as the NVR export or bodycam vault copy. Licensing and account traffic stay on this website; the media does not. Procurement framing: video redaction software.

Where assisted detection shows up

  • Bodycam — bystanders and lot plates
  • CCTV — corridors and pick-up lanes
  • FOIA / GDPR — faster first pass before human sign-off

FAQ

Is this an AI video blurring tool that runs in the browser?
No. Detection runs inside the Windows app. We do not host a web blur demo.
What is automated video redaction here?
The software proposes face and license-plate boxes so operators are not painting every frame. People still review, add manual boxes, mark audio ranges by hand, and export a burned-in file.
Does AI redact audio automatically?
No. Audio has no speech detector. Operators mark mute or beep ranges on the timeline.
Do the models leave the PC?
No. Detectors ship with the installer and run in-process on the file you opened. Media is not sent to a cloud model endpoint.
Can I ignore auto-detect entirely?
Yes. Draw and track boxes from scratch. Auto-detect is an accelerator, not a required mode.
